d/d 1 Apr 1967. w/o 12 Aug 1970 with 829 NAS, crashed near Mull of Kintyre while operating from HMS Dido.
a/c did NOT ditch but hit summit of hill on Mul Kintyre during night flying ex revise and whilst under IFR conditions being vectored by HMS Didis radar and SCATeam Pilot strangled to death on throat microphone whilst passenger ( engineering officer and not regular aircrew) was thrown clear and survived He was found sitting in his inflated life raft that he'd used to make a shelter from inclement weather
