Addenbrookes Hospital is the Major Trauma Centre for the East of England. This site is a temporary, new helipad, in the hospital grounds and lit for night operations, replacing an earlier one, off site. It opened on 1 Jan 2013.
The pad was temporarily damaged by the downwash from
7th SOS CV-22B
10-0053 on 21 Apr 2021 during take off, as part of a medical transfer exercise. While the helipad matting had been blown away,
East Anglian Air Ambulance, the
Magpas Air Ambulance and the
Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were being diverted to
Cambridge City Airport and patients would have to be transferred by road, until it had been repaired.
