The original Eagle Island Lights (in two towers) were established in 1835. They were damaged many times by wild weather and seas and in 1895 the damaged eastern of the towers was abandoned. An occasional helicopter service began in 1969 and the Light was automated in Mar 1988, managed from the Dun Laoghaire Operations Centre.
