Originally a WWII ammunition depot on the Colaba peninsula of South Mumbai, the site became INS Kunjali after Independence. First helicopter activity was in 1964, before a hard standing was put in place. INAS 321 began its move here from 1980. This is the main west coast helicopter base for embarked flights, most of which are for ships based at nearby Mumbai. It was renamed INS Shikra in Jan 2009.
