    History of this Location

Building began for RAF Long Marston in 1940 and the station was opened in 1941. As WWII moved into Normandy, the site was temporarily closed in 1944. It re-opened briefly during the Korean War but was closed again as an RAF Flying Station in 1954, although an RAF presence remained until the early 1960s. It was released for private and model aircraft flying.
Distributed around the airfield are withdrawn from use Meteor, Pembroke and Shackleton (WR985 / H, 8103M) in poor condition.
