Damen Shipyards Galați

The Damen Shipyards Group operates a major strategic hub in Romania, primarily through its facility in Galați, which was the construction site for the NRP D. João II. Located on the banks of the Danube River, this 55-hectare shipyard is one of the group’s largest and most technologically advanced production units, employing roughly 1,700 people and supporting a workforce that has delivered over 500 vessels since 1999.

The site is renowned for building complex naval ships, luxury yachts, and specialized research vessels, featuring high-end facilities like a robotized welding line for micro-panels and expansive covered production areas. While Damen previously held a stake in the Mangalia shipyard on the Black Sea, it exited that joint venture in 2023 following disputes with the Romanian government, leaving Galați as its primary and fully-owned operational center in the country.
