Between 1959 and 1970, Orlando Helicopter Airways, Inc (OHA) flew Sikorsky S-52 and S-55 for tours at Cape Kennedy. In the 1970s, OHA converted 17 Sikorsky S-58T helicopters from the 1500 horsepower R1820 radial engine to the Pratt & Whitney PT6 twin turbine engine.
In 1976 and funded by NASA, OHA developed an electric helicopter using the Hummingbird design
In 1987 awarded an US Army Redstone Arsenal to produce 15 Russian Mi-24 Hind flying drone simulators. Honeywell provided the flight control system and telemetry. These helicopters were used to test weapon systems at White Sands Missile Range
In 1991 Vertical Aviation Technologies, Inc., located at Orlando Sanford International Airport in Florida, began selling Hummingbird helicopter kits worldwide.
