Under the agreement, should the AW159 be selected for the Danish Maritime Helicopter Programme (MHP) Scandinavian Avionics A/S will provide a range of avionic support services to AgustaWestland.
23-Jan-12 - AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, and Systematic A/S of Denmark today signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) in Copenhagen to jointly explore business opportunities worldwide. AgustaWestland and Systematic will also work towards the integration of the SitaWare range of systems with AgustaWestland’s rotorcraft platforms and assist Systematic with the development and international marketing of its products and services. The intention is to leverage on AgustaWestland’s global marketing and sales network, to assist Systematic, especially in high-growth markets in Asia, South America and the Middle East where AgustaWestland has a well established presence.
20-Jun-11 - AgustaWeestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that the first production AW159 helicopter will be making its first appearance at the Paris Air Show. Sixty two AW159s have been ordered by the UK Ministry of Defence for the Army and Royal Navy to fulfil both over land and maritime missions with a common platform. The AW159, whilst building on the pedigree of the current Lynx, is a new 6-tonne multi-role military helicopter featuring a new marinised airframe, all new avionics, new mission sensors and new generation weapon systems. The AW159 programme has achieved several major milestones so far in 2011 and continues on time and on budget ready to deliver the first aircraft to the UK Ministry of Defence at the end of 2011. The first production aircraft performed its maiden flight on 20th April 2011 at AgustaWestland’s Yeovil facility and a further six production aircraft are now undergoing final assembly on a new state-of–art assembly line.
08-Mar-11 - AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to design and develop an integrated training solution which includes the building and equipping of a new modern training centre for the AW159 Lynx Wildcat helicopter. The state-of-the-art training centre will be located at RNAS Yeovilton in South West England, alongside Royal Navy and British Army AW159 Lynx Wildcat squadrons. The facility will provide training courses for Army aircrew and maintainers starting in January 2013, with training for Royal Navy aircrew and maintainers starting January 2014.
22-Nov-10 - AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that the third and final AW159 test aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight on November 19th at AgustaWestland’s Yeovil facility in the UK. During its maiden flight a range of general handling checks were completed and it performed as expected. The aircraft, designated TI3, is the third of three test aircraft that will complete a 600 hour integrated flight test programme. This first flight comes just a few weeks after the second AW159, designated TI2, first flew in mid October. All the three aircraft flew together for the first time on the same day.
15-Oct-10 - AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that the second AW159 multi-role military helicopter successfully completed its maiden flight at AgustaWestland’s Yeovil facility yesterday. During its maiden flight a range of general handling checks were completed and it performed as expected. The aircraft, designated TI2, is the second of three test aircraft that will complete a 600 hour integrated flight test programme. The third aircraft, TI3, is scheduled to join the flight test programme in late October 2010. Aircraft TI1 continues to perform air vehicle and flight envelope testing while TI2 will undertake the flight testing of the aircraft’s core and mission avionics systems, the systems and software having already been developed and tested on AgustaWestland’s Full Systems Integration Rig (FSIR). TI3’s main task include undertaking load survey trials and naval development, including ship helicopter operating limit trials. AgustaWestland has now also established a new AW159 production facility at its Yeovil plant that introduces a pulse line production system to bring significant efficiencies to the final assembly process. The first production airframe was delivered to AgustaWestland by GKN Aerospace on schedule in July 2010.
