German CH-47 Chinook in Luftwaffe

In June 2022, Germany selected the Boeing Chinook, teamed with Airbus, over the Sikorsky CH-53K in the Heavy Lift Helicopter Competition (STH). The program has over 10 German companies as partners.

In May 2023 was approved the Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of 60 Chinook helicopters valued at $8.5B based on the Block-2 but with custom modifications.

Starting in the fall of 2027, the Germans will receive 60 Block II Standard Range helicopters to be stationed in Holzdorf (47), Laupheim (12) and Manching (1).

The Chinook will be the first German helicopter with aerial refueling capacity.
