The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service significantly strengthened its aerial capabilities with the arrival of its new Airbus H145D3 helicopters, ordered in November 2023 and delivered in June 2025. The five-bladed H145D3 replaces older EC145 models, giving crews a modern, higher-performance platform designed for demanding border-surveillance, law-enforcement and search-and-rescue missions. Pilots highlight the aircraft’s improved stability, reduced vibration levels and increased lifting capacity—major advantages when carrying sensors, hoists or mission equipment along Lithuania’s long external borders with Belarus and Russia.
The H145D3’s Helionix avionics suite, 4-axis autopilot and Fenestron tail rotor enhance safety and situational awareness, enabling more efficient operations in low-visibility and high-workload environments. Its quieter acoustic signature and lower maintenance demands further support long-duration patrols and rapid deployment. With the introduction of the H145D3, Lithuania’s border guard aviation unit now fields one of the most modern and capable law-enforcement helicopter fleets in the region, reinforcing operational readiness amid heightened security challenges on the EU’s eastern frontier.
