AgustaWestland, June 04, 2001 - The second pre-production AB139 made its first flight on June, 4th, 2001, at Agusta's Cascina Costa plant in Italy, marking second pre-production aircraft entry into the development flight test activities.
After the AB139 first flight on February 3, 2001, the flight test program is thus well underway. The certification program foresees a Tie Down Helicopter (TDH) and three pre-production A/C. The TDH had started tests commencing in December 2000. Certification is expected for 2002 with deliveries to follow.
The AB139, in both civil and governmental configurations, is recording orders worldwide, with customers in Australia, Europe, Africa, Middle and Far East and the Americas. Negotiations with additional customers are in progress. The AB139 is a market driven product based on proven technology and state-of-the-art systems integration. It has better productivity and performance than its competitors, and it is time to market compliant.
The AB139's competitive objectives are lower operating costs and higher productivity than the competitors, category "A" performance without payload loss, reliability with advanced and proven technology, and design standards to meet all new regulatory and operational requirements. The AB139 overcomes limitations of existing helicopters and offers flexible baseline with configurations tailored to different applications.
