AMARILLO, Texas — Bell Textron and Boeing have completed the U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Program of Record, marking the production and delivery of 359 MV-22 Osprey tiltrotors to the service.

The companies commemorated the milestone during a ceremony held July 28 at the Bell Amarillo Assembly Center in Texas.

Completion of the Program of Record marks a transition from large-scale Marine Corps aircraft production toward long-term sustainment, fleet readiness, and modernization. The U.S. Marine Corps expects to operate the MV-22 fleet through 2055.

Eldon Metzger, V-22 Program Director at Bell, said, “This milestone reflects the extraordinary dedication of the teams who design, build, and support the V-22. For the Marine Corps, this isn’t an end, it’s a transition to the next chapter.”

Metzger added that Bell remains committed to providing the sustainment, readiness, and modernization required to keep the aircraft effective against evolving mission requirements.

The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was the first operational military tiltrotor, combining vertical takeoff and landing with the speed, range, and cruising efficiency of a fixed-wing aircraft.

The Marine Corps operates the world’s largest V-22 fleet. Its MV-22 variant is designed for missions in which the speed and range of conventional fixed-wing aircraft are required but suitable runways are unavailable.

Col. Robert Hurst, Program Manager at the V-22 Joint Program Office, said, “Completing the MV-22 Program of Record is a significant milestone. The V-22 Osprey sets the United States apart from every other military on the planet with the operational employment of tiltrotor technology.”

Hurst said the aircraft has extended the reach and combat capability of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force for 20 years and will remain a central Marine Corps platform for decades.

Bell Boeing highlighted the MV-22’s use in combat, humanitarian assistance, troop transport, resupply, casualty evacuation, and special operations missions.

The aircraft has supported Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria, humanitarian relief missions following earthquakes, and the 2009 operation to rescue Maersk Alabama captain Richard Phillips after the vessel was hijacked by Somali pirates.

Danielle Hoelzer, V-22 Program Director at Boeing, said, “Accomplishing the program of record reflects the hard work of the entire MV-22 team—engineers, technicians, and our supplier partners—who continue to deliver a capability that helps the USMC operate with speed, range, and flexibility.”

Team Osprey includes more than 500 U.S.-based suppliers and approximately 27,000 employees across 44 states. With Marine Corps production completed, the industrial team will increasingly focus on sustainment and upgrades across the operational fleet.

Bell and Boeing continue producing CMV-22B aircraft for the U.S. Navy and are supporting the Nacelle Improvement modernization program for the U.S. Air Force CV-22 fleet.
