Canton of Zurich, October 06, 2015 - The cantonal police Zurich presented the new police helicopter in Dübendorf. This replaces the predecessor model and has diverse and unique applications.
At the presentation of the police helicopter at the Dübendorf airfield, Security Director, Government Councilor Mario Fehr said: "The new police helicopter will directly benefit the people whose safety we have to take care of."
The helicopter, which in turn is chartered by Heli Linth AG, is co-financed by several partner organizations and operated by the cantonal police of Zurich from the base in Dübendorf.
Bruno Keller, Chief Security Police of the Cantonal Police of Zurich, also informed about the possible uses of the new helicopter. From a police point of view, these include:
- Search flights for missing persons, victims and suspects
- Assessment of natural events such as flood situations, landslides or falls, where the situation can only be assessed from the air
- Crowd management at major events
- Traffic monitoring
- Documentation of major accidents
Dominik Schwerzmann, Chief Civil Protection Department of the Cantonal Police of Zurich, guided the helicopter network. The partners are the cantonal authorities Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Aargau, Basel-Landschaft, Schwyz, St. Gallen and Zurich, as well as the city police of Zurich, cantonal offices for civil protection and the Federal Office of Topography. Among other things, the helicopter is requested by civilian partners for measurement and documentation flights, for example during environmental events.
For the accomplishment of these versatile tasks, the helicopter can be flexibly equipped with various technical means, which correspond to the current and modern technologies. Worth mentioning are, for example, the gyro-stabilized camera with thermal image sensor, the 3D Airborne scanner or the emergency transmitter search system.
