Ecuador Announced Helicopters Purchase
Helis, August 03, 2018 - The Ministry of National Defence of Ecuador, division general (Retired) Oswaldo Jarrín, announced a strengthening plan for the Ecuadorian Armed Forces to face the challenges demanded by the country security.

The project is designed to improve the capabilities of the military force as well as the implementation of a cyber defense capacity.

The purchase of helicopters was mentioned in the long list of requirements but without mentioning execution times or cost.

- The Army will expand the light transport infrastructure with multipurpose helicopters. Although there was not mention of model or quantity it would be fair to assume he was referring to more H125 as the ones recently acquired.

- The Ecuadorian Air Force (FAE) will also acquire six twin-engine helicopters to be used for rescue operations. The air force currently only operates a few Bell 206 (former US Navy Sea Rangers) after a very bad experience with the HAL Dhruv . Given the long standing relationship with Airbus (Helibras), the H215 Super Puma might have a chance but the Russian Mi-17 is already a established contender in the region.
