US Army Approval for Chinook Tank Roller System

The U.S. Army issued airworthiness certification for S.A.F.E. Structure Designs’ extended range fuel system (ERFS) tank roller system for the CH-47F Chinook. In 2022, S.A.F.E. was awarded a contract to equip 27 Army National Guard bases operating this helicopter

SAFE Structures Designs, October 08, 2024 - The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center Redstone Arsenal issued airworthiness certification on SAFE Structures 360 degree ERFS tank roller system for the CH-47 Chinook.

The United States Army Systems Readiness Directorate (SRD) Cargo, Rotor, Fixed Wing and Multiplatform Division reviewed S.A.F.E. Structures enhanced pallet supporting the H-47 Extended Range Fuel System (ERFS).

The H-47 ERFS system provisions a “USAF 463L” type pallet designed with heavy rollers to facilitate transit and loading 500 Gal & 800–Gal Robertson Fuel tanks into the H-47.

The S.A.F.E. patented 360-degree roller pallet is designed with omnidirectional rollers for the purpose of facilitating movement reducing user burden in logistics.

The United States Army Systems Readiness Directorate (SRD) approved the airworthiness perspective in support of the H-47 ERFS mission and have no airworthiness concerns with the patented S.A.F.E. 360 Roller Pallet for its intended purpose.

It should be noted that the user is required to utilize ERFS-provisioned cargo straps and established TTPs to maintain ERFS airworthiness on the CH-47F platform.

Johnny Buscema, S.A.F.E. Structure president and CEO, said “As we, S.A.F.E. Structure, continue to put the warfighters needs above our own, God continues to bless SAFE Structure in ways that only He can do. This is our first Airworthiness Certificate and it’s one that we honestly never anticipated. In retrospect, our team was solely focused on providing the United States Army with a creative and customizable solution for CH-47 extended range critical missions. Therefore, gaining an airworthiness approval from the United States Army is something we can only give credit to Jesus Christ! We are grateful for our partnership with the U.S. Army.”
