Bell 505 Reaches Final Phase of US Army Flight School Next Competition

The Bell 505 helicopter, sponsored by DigiFlight, Delaware Resource Group (DRG), V2X, Alpha 1 Aerospace, Semper Fly, and TRU Simulation, has been selected to advance to the fourth and final phase of US Army Flight School Next (FSN), where it will face the Robinson R66.

The U.S. Army has selected two finalists to advance to the fourth and final phase of the Flight School Next (FSN) competition: the Bell 505 and the Robinson R66, the latter sponsored by M1 Support Services (Team M1), which includes General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), Robinson Helicopter Company, Quantum Helicopters, and the University of North Dakota Aerospace Foundation (UNDAF). Lockheed Martin, which had previously advanced to Phase III with a proposal also based on the Robinson R66, has been eliminated.

The fourth phase will focus on demonstrating academic materials, simulators, and integrated training technologies at Fort Novosel (formerly Fort Rucker), alongside flight evaluations conducted by Army technical teams. A final selection is expected by September 2026, determining the provider responsible for managing the Army’s Initial Entry Rotary Wing (IERW) training program.
