Helis, February 28, 2020 - Bengaluru - India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Production Hangar here on February 27.
Using his official twitter account, the Defence Minister informed about the LCH latest progress.
The LCH received Initial Operation Clearance (IOC) on August 2017 and so far HAL has built four prototypes which have accumulated over 1200 flight hours including hot and high altitude trials at Leh over 15,000 feet / 4,800 meters.
The Indian Army and Air force ordered the first 15 “limited series” LCHs on December 2017. The new production hangar will augment production capacity to reach peak production of 30 helicopters per year.
The LCH is a 5.8-ton class combat helicopter powered by two Safran Ardiden / HAL Shakti engines and inherits many technical features of the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), the most advanced version of the Drhuv.
Indian future combat helicopter features a sleek and narrow fuselage, tri-cycle crash-worthy landing gear, self-sealing fuel tanks, armour protection and low visibility features which makes it agile and survivable.
