LORD Corp, April 04, 2018 - CARY, NC – LORD Corporation, a global diversified technology and manufacturing company, has been selected as a recipient of the 2018 Spotlight on New Technology® Award, an awards program via The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) that showcases the latest and most advanced hardware and software technologies leading the oil and gas industry into the future.

LORD is one of only 17 companies and technologies honored with this award this year.

LORD won the award for its design, production, and qualification of the 10K Completion Workover Riser Flexible Joint – a high-pressure joint, designed to operate at nearly double the pressure of flexible joints in similar applications while accommodating the motion of the vessel up to a 10-degree cocking angle. Through this innovation, operations are enabled to be more safe, sustainable, and efficient.

Produced in LORD’s Erie, Pa. facility, this innovative technology is for deepwater operators and contractors conducting completion, workover and intervention jobs. The flexible joint offers a dual-bearing design, where each bearing is comprised of multiple layers of elastomer bonded to spherical reinforcements.

“The LORD flexible joint is compact, enabling lower cost high-pressure interventions on smaller intervention vessels,” said Jonathan Owens, Director, Oil & Gas, LORD Corporation. “We are proud of this unique and differentiating solution that extends the pressure capabilities of flexible joints beyond what is standard, or even available, in the field today. It offers a redundant sealing feature not present in single-bearing flexible joints or stress joints.” The 10K Completion Workover Riser Flexible Joint offers a 10,000 psi operating pressure with a 15,000 psi hydrotest and can be rated up to a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. LORD designed and delivered the flexible joint in only 23 weeks, with the first order shipped in September 2017 and installed in well intervention vessels in late 2017.
