SPAES GmbH & Co. KG, September 01, 2023 - Karlsruhe, Germany - SPAES announces the successful approval of Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) filters in an Airbus AS332 helicopters.
NVIS filters play a pivotal role in enhancing visibility and safety during night operations by optimizing the use of Night Vision Goggles (NVGs). These filters are intelligently designed to filter and modify the wavelengths of cockpit lighting, ensuring compatibility with NVGs and facilitating improved visual perception in darkness.
The project was carried out in SPAES own EASA Part 21J Design Organization, with the designation of a "Minor Change." The installation of the filters was done by the Part 145 Maintenance Organisation in their own maintenance hangar. The readability of the instruments was checked during a ground test by day and night. The Minor Change was performed to ensure that the helicopter's VFR certification would remain valid during the installation process until the STC approval for NVIS operation is completed.
Joachim Schanz, CEO of SPAES commented “The successful installation of NVIS filters in the AS 332 helicopter underscores our commitment to elevating aviation safety without compromising regulatory standards"
