Recoil Tsunami Certified in Europe for the Super Puma
Tsunami Tank Aerial Firefighting Systems Features
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved the Recoil’s Tsunami Aerial Firefighting Tank System for the Super Puma helicopter series
BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky - Recoil Aerospace Inc. (Recoil) announce’s validation of its Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SR02584AK by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for it’s Airbus Super Puma Tsunami External Tank.
Recoil adds this EASA STC 10084620 for the Airbus Super Puma helicopter series (SA330, AS332, EC225, AS332L, AS332L1, AS332L2, EC225LP) to a wide-ranging list of existing international certifications.
The low-profile Tsunami External Tank mounts directly to the fuselage, requiring no modifications to the helicopter landing gear. Rapid installation combined with high-volume, fixed-tank water delivery and a 130 knot VNE leads to maximum fire suppression effectiveness.
Joseph Rice, Recoil President, said “We are pleased to be able to offer global Super Puma operators this proven, modern aerial firefighting solution, ideal for urban area and remote wildfire operations”

Many firefighting and utility helicopters are equipped with external water tanks or belly-mounted systems designed to scoop, carry, and drop thousands of liters of water or fire retardant with precision. These tanks—often made of lightweight composites—can hold between 1,000 and 4,000 liters (250–1,000 gallons), depending on the helicopter model. Systems like the Simplex, Recoil, and Isolair tanks are among the most common, offering features such as hover refill capability, variable drop rates, and foam injection systems to improve firefighting efficiency.
Unlike the traditional Bambi Bucket, which hangs from a sling, a belly tank is mounted directly under the fuselage, providing greater stability, faster refill times, and the ability to operate in confined areas. These systems are commonly installed on different helicopters and used by firefighting agencies worldwide.
