Armada Española, August 28, 2015 - The frigate `Santa Maria' returned yesterday to the Rota Naval Base after 45 days integrating the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG-2)
The main mission of the Spanish Armada ship in that time has been involved in Operation "Active Endeavour" to combat terrorism in the Mediterranean, for which it has taken on board an embarked air unit (UNAEMB, Unidad Aérea Embarcada) and a task force security unit (EOS, Equipo Operativo de Seguridad) of the Navy Marine Regiment ( Infantería de Marina del Tercio de Armada ).
During this period, the SNMG-2 has been under the command of German Admiral Jörg Klein, and formed by the frigate Santa Maria the Combat Supply Ship Cantabria, the TCG Yildirim (Turkey), the FGS Hamburg (Germany), USS Donald Cook (United States) and HMS Winnipeg (Canada).
About the frigate Santa María: The frigate was delivered to the Navy on October 12, 1986, as the first of its class. It has a crew of 190 and is currently under the command of Commander Jose Manuel Sanchez Garcia.
