Ostermans Aero, a Swedish aviation company founded in 1943, played a pioneering role in the introduction of helicopters to Sweden and Europe. After initially operating as Aero Service AB, the company changed its name to Ostermans Aero in 1946 when it became the general agent for Bell Aircraft in Sweden. In November of that year, it took delivery of Sweden's first helicopter, a Bell 47B, making it the first commercial helicopter operator outside the United States. This early acquisition provided the company with extensive experience, which proved valuable as it expanded its services to include helicopter sales, maintenance, flight training, and aerial work such as ambulance and mail services.
Throughout its history, Osterman Helicopter, a separate entity with roots in the original company, maintained a diverse fleet and engaged in various operations, including pilot training for the Swedish armed forces and utility works like power-line inspections. The company's fleet included a range of aircraft from Bell and Aerospatiale, such as the Bell 47, Bell 206 JetRanger, and the AS 350 Ecureuil. While the original Ostermans Aero was acquired by
Patria in 1999, Osterman Helicopter continued to operate until its bankruptcy in 2012, marking the end of a long legacy in Swedish helicopter aviation.
