On 10 August 1977 reserve squadron HMM-770 at NAS Whidbey Island, WA was ordered 153402 and all other of its CH-46D a/c to Santa Ana, CA for issue to subsequent units. Two months later HML-770 was issued UH-1N aircraft as replacements.

"A dark day indeed when you have to give up a Phrog for a Huey. (I was there!)" I was too. The formation flyover into Santa Ana was pretty wild. We landed out by the wash racks to a welcome by the crash crew (major fuel leak and fire warning light). Good times.
I was in MARTD. and at that time. can you believe I didn't know it had a squadran number? Duh.
