The Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland has jurisdiction over 588 square miles and started first airborne operations in 1987 using a rented helicopter flown from Lee Airport in the Southern District. In 1996, Anne Arundel County received 6 former US Army OH-58 Kiowa helicopters creating thus the aviation unit. In 2003 they began operating the Bell 407 model
