Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has jurisdiction over both the City of Charlotte and the entirety of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was formed in 1993 through the merger of the former Charlotte City Police Department and the Mecklenburg County Rural Police Department, giving it a unique "metro" policing status.

The Aviation Unit was fist established in 1971.
