German air rescue

DE Christoph 100 (DRF)

Established 2024

History Tracking
Christoph 100 is DRF Luftrettung’s third Berlin-based rescue helicopter, stationed at the Helios Klinikum Berlin-Buch. It entered regular service on January 2, 2024, to support the city’s emergency medical system alongside Christoph 31 (ADAC) and the ICU helicopter Christoph Berlin. The aircraft is an Airbus H145 (five-blade D3 variant) and, since January 2, 2025, it has operated with a fixed rescue hoist to enable winch operations. Typical duty hours run 06:00–22:00, with night missions supported by NVGs, and tasking covers roughly a 60-km radius for primary EMS and urgent transfers. The base was officially inaugurated in May 2024.

The crew mix reflects Berlin’s integrated model: pilots from DRF Luftrettung fly with an emergency physician (Notarzt) and a paramedic (Notfallsanitäter), provided jointly by Berliner Feuerwehr and the Bundeswehrkrankenhaus Berlin, operating in two shifts. From the outset the station was conceived by the Berlin Senate’s Interior & Sport Administration, with DRF as the contracted operator. The H145’s compact footprint, high power margin, and hoist capability make Christoph 100 well-suited for urban scenes, parkland, waterways, and difficult access rescues in and around the capital.
