Heimdal is a predominantly gas field, discovered in 1972. The reservoir is in the Paleocene turbidites of the Heimdal Formation at a depth of c 2.1km. It began producing gas and oil in Dec 1985, and together with product from the Atla, Skirne, Vale and Valemon fields sends gas ashore.
