Varg is a predominantly oil field, discovered in 1984. The platform stands in c 85m of water and reservoir is in the Upper Jurassic Ula Formation sandstone at a depth of c 2.7km. It began producing in 1998, although since c 2010 it has delivered some gas (but most had been re-injected to maintain oil flow). Production ceased in 2016 and the site is planned for decommissioning by 2021.
