Civilian owned AS355-F1 operated under contract to the RAF, to replace the VIP-configured Gazelle HCC.4 for communications and VIP transport duties. Its twin engines give it flexibility in routing over urban areas that the single-engined Gazelle had to avoid. There were also commonalities with the Squirrel, already in service.
