The Air Force prototype was first unveiled on December 20, 2017 at Airbus Albacete.
In June 2018, the First SAR NH90, nicknamed HD.29 LOBO in Spanish service, was delivered from Airbus Marignane to Airbus Albacete for final customization and it ws scheduled to enter service with 803 Squadron/48 Wing before end of the year. Five GSPA 2 will be delivered in 2020/2021 followed by six GSPA 3 afterwards.
Operational activity increased steadily, with the Spanish Air Force NH90 fleet reaching 600 flight hours during its first year of service in October 2021
In February 2022, the sixth and final helicopter of the first batch was delivered, while the Air Force NH90 fleet surpassed 2,000 cumulative flight hours.
By August 2023, the fleet had achieved more than 3,000 flight hours in service.
