Helis, September 04, 2019 - Pathankot - The Indian Air Force (IAF) inducted the first batch of Boeing AH-64E(I) Apache attack helicopters here on September 3rd.
The first 8, of 22 ordered, arrived to India last July 27 after the official hand-over ceremony held on May 10 at Boeing’ plant in Mesa, Arizona, USA.
These first helicopters have been delivered on schedule and the last batch is scheduled for delivery in March 2020.
The AH-64E is the latest and most advanced variant of the Apache which is used by the US Army and 18 allies and partner nations.
IAF’s air and ground crews have trained before delivery at the US Army Aviation school at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
The new helicopters will be operated by the 125 Squadron, nicknamed Gladiators, at Pathankot Air Force Station replacing Russian-made Mi-35 used by Indian Air Force for over three decades.
As part of this helicopter contract, which also includes 15 Chinook transport helicopters, a new factory built in Hyderabad by Tata will be sole producer of the Apache fuselages globally.
