Helis, May 12, 2019 - MESA, AZ - Air Marshal A S Butola of the Indian Air Force (IAF) formally received its first Apache Guardian attack helicopter in a ceremony held at the Boeing production plant in Mesa, Arizona, USA.
The reception follows the crew training that took place at the US Army aviation school in Fort Rucker, Alabama.
India signed contract in 2015 for the delivery of 22 AH-64E(I) Apache attack helicopters. The first batch is scheduled to arrive to India next July.
The addition of these helicopters is a significant step towards the modernisation of IAF’s helicopter fleet. The helicopter has been customized to suit India’s future requirements and would have significant capability in mountainous terrain.
In addition to the Apaches, Boeing is also delivering to India 15 CH-47F(I) Chinook heavy lift helicopters in a deal that also included moving all Apache fuselages production to a new plant in Hyderabad.
