Rostec, May 12, 2021 - Russian Helicopters holding, part of Rostec State Corporation, will present the upgraded Ka-32A11M fire-fighting helicopter at the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon.

The salon will take place in July in Zhukovsky near Moscow.

The Ka-32 modernization program includes equipping the helicopter with a "glass cockpit" with a system of avionics, more powerful VK-2500PS-02 engines and a new fire extinguishing system. The new engines will significantly improve the helicopter's flight characteristics for operation in hot and mountainous regions. According to the calculations of the designers, the carrying capacity of the helicopter in such conditions can increase by about 1600 kg.

“Helicopters of the Ka-32 type are recognized all over the world as one of the best machines for firefighting work. Nevertheless, even the best models of equipment need timely modernization. We have managed to preserve the outstanding flight characteristics of the helicopter, supplementing them with modern avionics and a new, more efficient and multifunctional fire extinguishing system. We will present a prototype Ka-32A11M at the MAKS-2021 air show and will be ready to deliver the aircraft next year, ”stressed Andrey Boginsky, General Director of the Russian Helicopters holding.

The technical solutions used in the "glass cockpit" of the Ka-32A11M helicopter have already been tested on the civilian multipurpose models Ansat and Mi-38. They will greatly facilitate the work with additional navigation, optoelectronic and search equipment that can be installed on a helicopter. It will also be possible to work with night vision goggles.

The new SP-32 fire extinguishing system, developed by specialists from the NTSV Mil and Kamov and KumAPP, has received a number of significant advantages over foreign counterparts. The new tank holds 4 tons of water and is divided into four compartments. The patented digitally controlled flap system allows the flaps to be opened in pairs or alternately, as well as to adjust the flap opening angles, thereby increasing the water discharge time.

The fire extinguishing system allows you to automatically collect 4 tons of water in 60 seconds, as well as add up to 400 liters of a foam agent to the water. It is also adapted for use with a water cannon. In addition, all SP-32 systems are electrically heated, which, for the first time in the world, allows it to be used in winter conditions at temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius.

“The coaxial design of the Ka-32 helicopter has a number of serious advantages. Above all, it provides hover stability and excellent crosswind stability. In addition, due to the absence of a tail rotor, the dimensions of the helicopter are reduced, which makes it more maneuverable. In Switzerland, the Ka-32 is used for assembly work in the mountains, and I think that equipping the helicopter with new, more powerful engines will benefit him: this will improve flight performance at altitudes above 2000 meters above sea level, "said the leading engineer helicopters Ka-32A11BC by HeliSwiss International AG Emil Hristov.

Serial production of Ka-32 helicopters has been established at the Kumertau Aviation Production Enterprise (KumAPP). To date, more than 240 machines have been built, which are operated in more than 30 countries.
