Boeing, July 19, 2025 - The U.S. Air Force has successfully completed the MH-139A Grey Wolf’s final Initial Operation Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) flight, concluding a six-month program that assessed its operational effectiveness and suitability for its intended mission.
With testing complete, the Air Force can officially conclude the IOT&E step in the defense acquisition process and move the program toward a full-rate production decision.
During the six-month evaluation, the services team demonstrated the aircraft's capabilities and showcased its sustainment and maintenance potential in an operational environment.
The team managed logistics, maintenance and support systems, ensuring that the aircraft could be reliably operated and maintained under real-world conditions.
AC Crowley, BGS MH-139 Services senior program manager, said “We are working to provide the highest level of service support for the MH-139A. The emphasis on sustainment and maintenance is integral to ensure that the platform remains a reliable asset for the Air Force, capable of meeting the operational readiness and efficiency demands of its vital missions for years to come”
Azeem Khan, MH-139 program director, said “IOT&E completion brings the Air Force one step closer to fielding this critical capability. Our focus remains on safely building and delivering the remaining aircraft so when the Air Force is ready to deploy the Grey Wolf, they have everything they need to execute the mission.”
The MH-139A is designed with advanced features and capabilities to enhance the Air Force’s strategic deterrence and operational flexibility. The aircraft will replace the legendary Bell UH-1N helicopters tasked with protecting Boeing-made Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).
