Mi-8MTV-5 with Gyro-Stabilized Optoelectronic System
Russian Helicopters, September 06, 2016 - Moscow - Russian Helicopters, part of State Corporation Rostec, will present the first prototype of the Mi-8MTV-5 helicopter equipped with the GSOS systems, which was built by Kazan Helicopters.

The helicopter is shown at the International Military and Technical Forum Army-2016 in Kubinka, Moscow región, September 6 – 11 2016.

Gyro-stabilized opto-electronic systems (GSOS) are designed for day and night viewing of surroundings, search, detection and recognition of objects and obstacles based on their thermal reading, measuring range to an object for the purpose of take-off, flying and landing, and many other special tasks.

GSOS represents a universal module which, depending on customer requests, can be set up with various equipment. This equipment often requires steric stabilization, particularly with a laser range finder.

Helicopters equipped with the GSOS system can perform environmental monitoring, engage in policing, search and rescue missions, as well as other tasks. Four-channel systems are located in the base of the gyro-stabilized platform for the detection and recognition of objects in a wide viewing angle or under excessive vibration at any time of day.

Mi-8MTV-5 is a military transport helicopter that belongs to the Mi-8/17 family and is available to various law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.

This type of helicopter is designed to transport troops and cargo and can carry up to 4,000 kg inside the body or on an external sling. This helicopter is also used to perform combat missions using various weapons, as well as for search and rescue, sanitation missions and special operations.

The helicopter is equipped with modern communication and navigation systems. During its long-term operation, the Mi-8/17 produced by Kazan Helicopters has proved that it can successfully cope with tasks in all weather conditions and is rightfully the most popular and one of the best helicopters in the world in its class.

Kazan Helicopters is a Russian Helicopters company, which produces Mi-8/17 helicopters that are operated in over 100 countries worldwide. A wide range of configurations of these helicopters are produced: transport, passenger, search and rescue, troop-lift, among others. A medium Mi-38 helicopter is being readied for production. Since 1997, Kazan Helicopters has been certified to develop helicopter technology: today the light twin-engined Ansat helicopter is in series-production.
