This strategic expansion responds to the rising demand for rapid, life-saving air medical transport across rural regions of Alabama.
The new Monroeville base will provide 24/7 air ambulance coverage for the citizens of Monroe and surrounding counties, ensuring immediate lifesaving care is always on-hand in critical emergencies. Each helicopter is equipped with critical care equipment, including blood products for immediate transfusions to stabilize critically injured patients prior to reaching a trauma center.
Since 2022, PHI Air Medical and the not-for-profit Enterprise Rescue’s operation is powered by a distinctive collaboration – PHI Air Medical provides its expert pilots and aviation mechanics, while Enterprise Rescue supplies highly trained clinical crews, including expertise from its long-standing ground service.
Both organizations emphasize the importance of this co-operative program in providing quality emergency medical services and improving community health to residents of Alabama, regardless of their insurance network affiliations.

Lifesaving care across West Alabama
Enterprise Rescue Air 3 – the company’s newest addition to its existing air medical operations – has officially been put into service as of Thursday July 17.
With a home base at the Monroe County Airport in Monroeville, Air 3 will service several nearby communities and counties, further strengthening the company’s commitment to delivering lifesaving care across West Alabama.
Announced back in April, Air 3 has come to life thanks to the continued partnership between Enterprise Rescue and PHI Air Medical. Since 2022, PHI and ERI have continued in a joint relationship, all in an effort to bring critical care to the skies of South Alabama.
The Monroe County 911 board – along with numerous other area officials and leaders – have been pivotal in assisting ERI and PHI reach its in-service date. Since February, ERI has serviced Monroe County with ground ambulance operations based out of the Monroe County Hospital. Soon, those efforts will transition to a renovated facility on Ivey Street in Monroeville.
With Air 3 officially open, Enterprise Rescue Air now has coverage of more than 20 counties across South Alabama, with just under 100 land miles separating its first-ever base in Enterprise (Air 1) to Monroe County (Air 3).
December 2022: Air 1 opens in Enterprise at the Enterprise Municipal Airport (EDN).
February 2024: Air 2 opens in Andalusia at the South Alabama Regional Airport (79J).
July 2025: Air 3 opens in Monroeville at the Monroe County Airport (MVC).
