European Defence Agency, July 20, 2020 - Main goal of the OCEAN2020 (Open Cooperation for European mAritime awareNess) webinar was to illustrate the project and provide an overview of the results achieved during the first live sea demonstration, hold in the Gulf of Taranto on the 20 and 21 November 2019.

The two-day live demonstration was the first opportunity for this ambitious project to demonstrate enhanced situational awareness in a maritime environment through the integration of legacy and new technologies for unmanned systems., CMS (Combat Management System) naval communications and maritime operation centres.

Coordinated by Leonardo, the OCEAN2020 Project involves 43 countries of 15 European countries. It aims to achieve a wide set of operational and technical objectives, ranging from enhanced situational awareness, autonomy, cost effectiveness and increased interoperability for joint missions.

In particular, the first sea trial served as basis for demonstrating a series of objectives that includes the launch and recovery of unmanned systems from warships, integration of EO, radar and AIS payload to provide multi-source data and video streaming, manned-unmanned teaming, integration between Unmanned Systems and naval CMS, use of satellite data for augmenting situation awareness, and the link chain of information flowing to Maritime Operations Centres.
