Helis, February 13, 2021 - On February 7, 2021 flooding hit Uttarakhand state in northern India and sparked a massive rescue operation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Among the assets deployed by the Indian Air Force (IAF) are the new Boeing CH-47F Chinook helicopters received in 2019. 15 helicopters were acquired as part of a $3B package that also included 22 AH-64E Apache gunships.
The heavy-lifting helicopters brought in both personnel and material required for the on-going rescue at the Tapovan tunnel in the Chamoli area, choked in the flood of Sunday.
The IAF had earlier deployed them to airlift supplies to remote areas amid the coronavirus pandemic.
