c 1500 British troops were deployed at short notice to support peacekeepers of the UN Assistance Mission to Sierra Leone (UNAMSiL), when Rebel Forces were escalating attacks against Government troops and UNAMSiL peacekeepers. One of its objectives was to undertake a Non-combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO). The mission completed when the Rebels were encouraged to return to negotiations. It was followed by a British contingent under
Operation Basilica with significant Canadian involvement from Nov 2000, under
Operation Sculpture.
