Formed at RNAS Culdrose in Jan 1959 when the Aircraft Handling School from Lee-on-Solent and the Fire Fighting School from Gosport amalgamated, on moving from Hampshire. Trained Royal Navy deck handlers in the movement of aircraft and helicopters aboard carriers and smaller ships, with various aids like a dummy deck and dummy hangar doors and lighting. Renamed the School of Flight Deck Operations in Nov 1995.
