1906 Flt

1947–1957

Originally formed in Jan 1947 in Italy as a fixed wing Air Observation Post (AOP) unit from parts of A and B Flights of 654 Squadron but subsequently disbanded in Jul 1947 to become 1910 AOP Flight.

Reformed at Middle Wallop on 1 May 1950 as 1906 (Helicopter) Flight, (parented by 657 Squadron), it was the War Office VIP Flight and had two Hoverfly R6s on strength until November 1950, with four Sycamores until late 1957. The Sycamores were grounded in early 1954 for a lengthy period and two Hillers were used to provide continuity. The Flight trialled the Skeeter in 1956. It became 6 Flight, Army Air Corps on 1 Sep 1957 when Army flying was restructured.
