On 22 Apr 2019, a Southern Lakes helicopter ditched in the Southern Ocean during a night time positioning flight to the Auckland Islands group, in preparation for an evacuation of a sick seaman from a passing ship, due to take place on 23 Apr. The three crewmen were themselves rescued from the north side of Auckland Island the next day and flown to Southland Hospital by Kawasaki BK117s of Otago Rescue.
