Previously a reserve unit, 301 Sq was re-activated on 31 Jan 1997 at Gilze-Rijen to operate the AH-64A Apache and inherited its badge from the disbanded 314 Sq. 
From Apr 2014, a 3 Apache detachment operated at Camp Castor in Mali under UN mandate.
