Helicopter Combat Support Special Squadron 5

HCS-5 · Firehawks

1988–2006

Former HAL-5, along with its sister squadron, HCS-4, were the only US Navy squadrons that perform both combat search and rescue (CSAR) and special warfare support as their primary missions. Flew the HH-60H Seahawk helicopter.

Redesignated Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Eight Five ( HSC-85 ) on October 2006.
HCS-5 was stationed at NAWS/NAS Pt. Mugu California from 1988 until sometime after 2000-2001 at which time moved to NAS North Island. Those of us that served there are referred to as either OG (Old Gangsters) Firehawks or OG PMG (Pt Mugu) Firehawks. It sets us apart from those kids in HSC-85 who are also part of our family
