Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Eleven (HSC-11), known as the "Dragon Slayers," traces its origins to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Eleven (HS-11), which was established on June 27, 1957, at Naval Air Station Quonset Point, Rhode Island. Initially equipped with the Sikorsky HSS-1 Seabat helicopter, the squadron focused on anti-submarine warfare during the Cold War era. Early deployments included operations aboard the USS Wasp in the Caribbean during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, where HS-11 provided critical ASW support. Over the decades, the squadron transitioned through various aircraft, including the SH-3 Sea King, and earned its "Dragon Slayers" nickname around 1973, reflecting its aggressive ASW prowess. It relocated to NAS Jacksonville, Florida, in 1973 and became a mainstay of Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1).

In the early 21st century, as the Navy shifted helicopter roles toward multi-mission capabilities, HS-11 began transitioning to the MH-60S Seahawk. On June 1, 2016, the squadron was officially redesignated HSC-11, expanding its mission set to include search and rescue, logistics support, and combat search and rescue alongside traditional ASW duties. Concurrently, it relocated to Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, where it remains based today. HSC-11 continues to deploy with CVW-1 aboard aircraft carriers, supporting global operations with the versatile MH-60S platform.
