ISP








The Indiana State Police (ISP) began utilizing aircraft in 1948 with the acquisition of a Navion airplane. The Aviation Section has grown over the decades, with helicopters being introduced into the fleet during the 1950s. The unit continues to be an integral part of the ISP's capabilities as part of its Special Operations Command.

Its primary functions include traffic enforcement, fugitive and victim search and rescue, criminal surveillance, disaster assessments and joint operations by collaborating with other agencies.

As of 2025, the ISP Aviation Section utilizes a fleet consisting in three helicopters and two fix-wing aircraft.
