Established January 1961, SFO started as a helicopter taxi service. On November 1963 was approved to provide services between San Francisco International Airport, Metropolitan Oakland International Airport, downtown San Francisco, downtown Oakland, Berkeley, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and points to Marin and Contra Costa Counties. SFO was the first commercial helicopter airline to operate without a subsidy from the Federal Government. At the time, the Oakland -San Francisco route, a 10 miles distance, cost $ 8.50. In 1961 started operations with the S-62. The S-61 joined in 1965. SFO declared bankruptcy on August 1970.
