The Santa Clara Field was discovered in 1975 by Chevron. It produces largely natural gas from the Pliocene Pico Formation at around 4400ft and the Miocene Monterey Formation at around 7900ft depth.
Chevron was due to begin decommissioning of the Gail platform in 2019.
