The Mariner Field was discovered in 1981 c 150km E of Shetland, as an ultra-heavy oil prospect in two Paleocene reservoirs; the Heimdal Sandstone at c 1230m depth and the Maureen Formation at c 1500m depth. The seabed is c 110m deep. The two major owners are Equinor and JX Nippon.
First oil was produced in Aug 2019 and this is piped after dilution to Mariner B, an FSU.
