Russian Helicopters, August 07, 2018 - During the International Military-Technical Forum Army-2018 Russian Helicopters will present for the first time the newest heavy-lift Mil Mi-26T2V helicopter designed in the interests of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The prototype of the aircraft is manufactured at the Rostvertol company and will soon make its first flight.
As currently planned, the helicopter will fly to the Army-2018 exhibition on its own. After the forum, specialists of the Mil Moscow Helicopter Factory will hold a set of Mi-26T2V preliminary trials. Upon their completion, the aircraft will be handed over to the military for state tests.
“Mi-26 as the world’s largest mass-produced helicopter is used to perform extraordinary tasks that are inaccessible to other machines, and each unit of the new machine must provide maximum performance. The Mi-26T2B’s on-board equipment will make this helicopter even more efficient and reliable, even when used in [adverse] weather and complex terrain,” said Andrei Boginsky, general director of Russian Helicopters.
According to the requests of the customer, the Mi-26T2V helicopter must be able to perform tasks even in regions with complex geographical and unfavorable climatic conditions, at any time of the day, along equipped and unequipped routes, as well as above unoriented terrain.
From the basic Mi-26 model, the new helicopter features a modern integrated electronic equipment suite, the NPK90-2V, which greatly simplifies piloting of the helicopter. The newest avionics complex allows the helicopter, in automatic mode, to fly along a route, exit to a predetermined point, approach to landing, as well as pre-landing maneuvering and return to the main or alternate aerodrome.
In addition to this, a digital flight control system was installed on the helicopter, while the crew’s cabin is equipped with colored liquid crystal multifunction displays that significantly reduce the load on the flight crew.
The Mi-26T2V also received the Vitebsk defensive aids suite, which both detects threats to the helicopter and counters attacking infrared homing warhead weapons.
Lighting equipment on the Mi-26T2 is now adapted for using night vision goggles, and installed in the cockpit of the helicopter are new energy-absorbing crew seats. Improvements also touched on the navigation system and satellite communication facilities of the helicopter.
